May Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Hop

Good morning everyone today I am sharing my kit I pulled together for the May Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Hop, the inspirational kit picked this month was Scrapbookdoodle's Sweet Life Kit. It is a lovely kit filled with bright coloured patterned papers, beautiful butterflies, stunning yellow flowers and lots of embellishments to match.

I will post the Master Blog Hop List at the end of this post, just in case you have lost your way and you can work out the pathway for your journey. Our guest designer this month is Dawn Priestly Cervo so make sure you leave her lots of love while you pass through and view her kit.

Sweet Life by Scrapbookdoodle

Here is the photo of the full kit;

When I was running my eye over the photo of the kit I was drawn in by the navy and yellow and realised that the colours in this kit were very similar to my April Counterfeit Kit that I put together and as it has been a super crazy month I have actually not used my kit very much at all...... which lead me to pull it apart and join elements from it to this months kit.

Here is my kit for May:

I will break it and my though process down for you a bit.

Papers

The Sweet Life Kit had the beautiful BoBunny papers, when looking at them I noticed colours first; navy, red, yellow, subtle pink and a pale blue. I then turned to the patterns and saw florals and butterflies with tags. So I kept these prompts in my head and started rifling through my stash.

I pulled papers with the colours in mind first, about 50% of them were in last months kit, so it was very quick, I jsut needed to add a subtle pink and pale blue (the triangle print pink, the 5th paper across from the left and the numbered paper were my additions). I have good intentions to use the cut-a-part sheets as tags on my layout as there are small embellishment tabs in the Sweet Life Kit that grab my attention.

Embellishments

The embellishments were my next focus, if you look at the extra detail photos from the Scrapbookdoodle Sweet Life Kit (follow the link to see the detail photos) you will see a stack of lovely pieces that compliment the papers; stickers, layered chipboard, enamel dots, ribbon, flowers and more.

I decided to go with enamel dots, sequins, little paper tabs, die cuts and stickers in the same colours of my papers. I also dug deep in my flower stash to find these yellow paper flowers with the hope of creating similar flowers to the paper daisies in the original kit.

Make sure you pop back in for all the rest of the fun we will have this month: Forgery on the Fourth, Two Monthly Challenges and heaps more.

Exciting Announcement

Hello everyone, I am super excited to announce to you all that I have been asked to be on another Creative Team. It is wonderful company called Jennifer Edwardson Creative Inc. I am part of Jennifer's cut file creative team so each month I get to play with the most wonderful new cut files which just help me enhance my scrapbooking layouts.

Here are three of the projects that I created using the April Release cut files.

Bloom

I have used the Easter Egg Wreath with the Bloom Bundle cut files

Some Bunny Loves You

Here I have used the Easter Cut File Bundle to create this sweet layout of the girls first Easter together.

Love You Always

Another first Easter layout this time I used the Floral Frame Cut File.
Please stop by the Jennifer Edwardson store and have a look around, there is some amazing stuff in stock; from digital cut files to creative scrapbooking kits and Fusion Mineral Paint for altering your furniture. Not sure if I have mentioned this before here on my blog, but my furniture around the house has started to look tired and too dark for the house we have now, so I have been slowly revamping them to give them a new fresh looks.

Take care.

April Counterfeit Kit Club Blog Hop April Reveal

Hello lovely people, thanks for joining in on the Counterfeit Kit Blog Hop this month. Hopefully you found your way here from Tina's Blog, don't worry if you didn't, I will post the Master List for the Blog Hop at the bottom of this post, that way you can jump along with us and see the beautiful kits that the Master Forgers have put together along with the lovely kit by our guest Helen DeRam. She has done such a wonderful job putting her kit together, make sure you check it out.

The kit that was chosen this month for our inspiration was the "Follow Your Bliss" kit from Papers and Beyond.

Isn't a beauty? Jammed pack with bright bold colours, when Tina picked the kit this months she said "When I took a closer look at the Follow Your Bliss kit, I knew it was the right one for us this Easter month. A mix of funky Vicky Boutin and pretty Jen Hadfield, this American Crafts kit felt like a splash of spring with a lot of potential for gorgeous kits with possible forgeries sprinkled right in there! I hope you like it as much as I do."  What do you think? Is it the right one for April? I love it.

Right so let me get into it and break down my thought process of how I put my kit together from my stash of scrapping supplies (I really haven't bought anything new for so long but my stash is NOT GOING DOWN!!)

Papers

So when I was looking at the kit the first thing I noticed about it was the bright bold colours, with the pop of blue and yellow (which are in the main kit photo but not in the individual paper photos, so I am assuming they might be cardstock?) anyhoo, I was mainly inspired by the A side of the papers so I just ran with them (the photo of the left below). It thought to myself mainly primary colours with touches of secondary colours..... so I started looking for papers with mainly reds, blues and yellows with accents of pink, green, orange.

I then checked out the images and patterns and saw colourful flowers, feathers, birds, butterflies, black and white flowers and a touch of dark brown woodgrain. There was one paper on the B sides that really jumped out to me and that was the glass ring paper so I will have a go at recreating that for the Forgeries on the Fourth
Here are how my papers for the kit turned out:

I substituted the black and white flower wreath paper with some simple black and white patterned papers, I added some dark brown woodgrain to replicate the touch of brown in the cut-a-part sheet, I have bird, butterfly and feather patterns. I have picked papers just for the colour and added a cut-a-part just to add bulk. When I look at what I have it doesn't really remind me the original kit, but I am excited to get in and use it.

Embellishments

The Follow Your Bliss kit has some lovely embellishments in it; diecuts, label stickers, wooden flairs/button things and small stickers. I thought that I it would be easy drawing inspiration from them....

But I was a bit all over the place looking for my embellishments thinking of feathers, birds, flowers and bold colours. I didn't really find much at all so I went back to the original kit photo and looked a bit harder at the little embellishments and an "everyday/normal day" type of them with them so thought about that when rifling in my tubs of embellishments. I haven't added as many embellishments to my kit as I usually do each month but I figure if I have less I will just have to use them all and not have any left at the end of the month!! I need to busy my stash!

While searching my supplies I found a container with half cut our feathers, I think I remember saving these from some wrapping paper that the girls received about 5 years ago, so I have added them to my kit. They are a bit curled up from being saved for so long, but a heavy book or low iron will help to straighten them up.

Alphas

In the Follow Your Bliss kit there is a packet of Thickers and then the black diecut phrases for layout titles, I couldn't quite work out if the Thickers in the original kit were soft peach colour or a woodgrain.

I decided that I would go with wood grain as I have woodgrain in my papers. :) I also added the black Thickers to substitute for the black diecut phrases and at the last minute I found the black diecut words which was the final touch to my kit.

Here is my kit all together so that you can see it in all it's glory. Actually that is what I am going to call this kit....

Glory

I really love how it has all come together and I can't wait to get in and use it. I hope that I have given you some food for thought on how to look at your supplies and draw inspiration to pull your very own kit, which doesn't have to look anything like the original kit at all. It is just a base to start off your inspiration.

Make sure you pop back in for all the rest of the fun we will have this month; Forgery on the Fourth, Two Monthly Challenges and heaps more.

March Counterfeit Kit Reveal Blog Hop

Wow, where did February go? March already! I almost missed the start of it. Anyhoo for this Months Kit the inspiration is from the Citrus Twist March 2020 Life Crafted Weekender Kit and it is absolutely lovely. The joy this kit brings me when I look at it, it warms my heart. Full of lovely colours and pretty patterns.

The subtle colours with the bright pops of yellow and teal are what gained my attention first when looking at the whole kit. I then noticed the gold and small amounts of boldness in some of the embellishments.

But then looking at the close ups in isolation I saw blues and yellows teamed together.

Pinks and oranges in the next close up!

The cuteness of the diecut daisies and all the labels drew my eye when looking harder at teh embellishments.

Tickets and coloured chipboard, oh what fun.

Looking at the individual patterned papers I realised that I didn't have any of these sheets at all and when rifling though my stash i realised that I didn't have too much to match the joyful colour scheme either! Oh what was I to do?

Keep looking of coarse. I searched and dug deep in my copious amounts of patterned paper and pulled out yellows first, although my yellows are more of a mustard yellow then the bright sunshine yellow in the original kit. the blue/teal was singing out next so I picked two sheets of it and a floral blue/yellow to kind of replicate the floral pattern in the original. Next I wanted to add a touch of the subtle colour so I popped in the pinks and then two fun pattens the ticket one and the book shelf one. I was now happy with the papers. Next.... onto the embellishments.

Diecuts, tickets, coloured chipboard in bright yellows, teals/blues and light pink is what i chanted to myself over and over as I made a mess on my scrapping table. I really have to remember to sort my stash properly to make this process easier for me in the future.  :)

So many thing that I pulled to pop into my kit. Lots of spring/summer felling diecuts, bright bold colour chipboard that is screaming to be used.

Oh look at that in the original kit .... gold letters, this means I can add gold accents... doesn't it!! Yeap it does!! So in go the gold thickers and gold frames. Oh joy.

And here is what my whole kit turned out like. I am calling it joyful heart as that is how I felt when I looked at the original Citrus twist kit and mine is warming my heart. I think I am going to have a lot of fun using this kit up.

So if you have found your way to my post for the reveal you should have arrived from Tina's blog? If not then I have popped the Master List up below so you can follow along. If you have arrived here via the Blog Hop then your next stop is Kate's blog. Happy Travels.

February Counterfeit Kit Reveal Blog Hop

Hello lovely people, welcome to the February reveal for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and Blog Hop. If you are here on my blog I am hoping that you found your way from Tina's Blog? In not don't panic, I will post the whole Blog Hop List at the bottom of my post.

It is Misty's first month hosting a kit here at CKC and what an awesome kit she has picked....the Denim & Blush Modern Memory Keeping Kit from Cocoa Daisy from February 2021. With it's focus on f journaling cards and embellishments it is sure to hit the mark with many paper crafters. Misty loved the kit for it’s combination of rich and airy colours, it’s everyday life usefulness and the slight nod to the Valentine’s holiday
. Here it is the main kit, isn't lovely.

Cocoa Daisy Denim & Blush Main Kit

I really like the subtle colours with the pop of dark blue / denim, not sure why but I think of my Grand Mother when I look at this kit. I think it has the right balance of colours and range of embellishments that will pull me out of this scrappers rut I am in.

Here is how my final kit looked like, once I had pulled out every pile of patterned paper to find what I was looking for. (I will have to clean my space prior to creating - it is all over the place).

When putting my kit together I started with the papers, I looked at what papers were in the Main Kit and the Extra Paper Kit of the Cocoa Daisy Kit. The subtle colours of the pinks, yellows with the pop of dark blue and that one sheet of the red jumped out at me and I saw hearts as a bit of a focus.

When looking at the pictures of the papers by thought process was to create a list, for this paper in the Add on Paper Kit I thought : blue floral, mainly blue, yellow geometric, small pink hearts, pink zigzags and funky geometric.

My list to find for the papers in the Main Kit was : subtle pink, journaling cards, more hearts, blue lines, bright red with pattern, yellow checks.

Keeping my list near me I ended up pulling these papers. The first row is the papers I found that replicate the Add on Papers from the Kit : Three dark blue florals that I just had to pop into the kit, I know! More than what is in the Cocoa Daisy kit, but how could I resist? I finished the dark blues with a final blue sheet with wavy lines across it. The geometric yellow, I ended up putting in two papers instead of the small pink hearts paper - the pink dot and medium hearts paper.  I found a chevron pink paper and substituted it for the pink zigzag and lastly added a subtle pink geometric paper instead of the funky bright one in the original kit.

For the second row (which the inspiration was take from the papers in the Main Cocoa Daisy Kit) I pulled a subtle pink tiny triangle patterned paper. Where the Cocoa Daisy Kit had the journaling card paper I decided to replace with wood grain paper (not just one but three of them), I finally found a paper with small hearts on it so it was popped in next. This lead onto the last three papers from the original kit, I had trouble finding papers similar in my stash so I stretched my original thought process a bit to find substitutes along a similar path....blue lines paper in the original kit - now the wavy blue zig zag paper, bright red with pattern is now replaced with bold funky pink and red hearts and pink written words on book lines and the yellow checks are now funky yellow arrows (I'm not 100% sure they complements my kit or not, but when I start scrapping I will see how I make them work).

The Embellishments. Pink and dark blue stickers, alphas, hearts, florals, die cuts and enamel dots was the list I was chanting in my head when I was rifling through my stash.

What I ended up pulling is: very similar to that list but I added a few wood grain items to my kit to tie it back in with the wood grain papers that I added. I also found a star sticker sheet which I thought would work with the kit colours, so it was thrown in at the last minute.

I am happy with the embellishments even with the washi tape that I found. The washi tape in the Cocoa Daisy kit were lovely. The heart one really drew my attention and imagine my happiness when I found a similar one in my supplies. I have a large amount of washi tape but never remember to use it on layouts, so hopefully adding it to my kit I will actually use some of it.

My washi tape - two dark colours; a floral and a script one, a wood grain and the heart one!!

Well that is it for my thought process on how I put my kit together this month, I hope that I have given you a few ideas on how to create one of your own?
